Spring Inspiration — 2019

“April… hath put a spirit of youth in everything.”

– William Shakespeare

Spring is a time of year when I always feel excited and ready for change, ready to be outside and get into a new daily rhythm. I think that’s a common feeling as the weather begins to change. Sometimes I wish it were warm all year long, but without the winter we wouldn’t have this exciting season of anticipation.

One of the things I love about this season is Easter. Easter vies with Christmas as my favorite holiday — what it lacks in fanfare it makes up for with zero stress. It’s usually the first time I get out my spring and summer dresses, and the point when I finally take winter decor off of my porch, making way for a springy wreath. I love chic Easter decor like natural dyed Easter eggs and ceramic bunnies sprinkled here and there.

April always makes me think of flowers and plants, both inside and out. While it’s not yet planting season, it is planning season. I start thinking about outside projects I want to accomplish this season and which flowers and vegetables I’m going to plant once it warms up. I might start seeds indoors, or buy a few potted plants to hold me over inside. Greenery in vases, ivy topiaries, and the texture of organic items like bark and raw woods inspire me in this season, while I dream of aged terracotta pots baking in the sun with dahlias and roses growing in the garden. Images from Jenny Rose Innes have reignited my desire for a cutting garden and I hope to start collecting for it this year.

As the weather warms up, I’m ditching my boots and puffer coat for loafers and layers. Dresses over pants, sweaters over dresses, vests over long sleeves and white button ups under everything feels fresh and interesting to me in the Spring, while I hope I can wear simple, flowy summer dresses in a few months (weeks if we are lucky). I’ve also been very inspired by Paula of Hill House Vintage, not just for her beautiful country house, but her perfect country lady style of full skirts, cable knit sweaters and loafers.

Here is the inspiration I’m pinning right now. (Click on photos for source.)
