Inspired by: Red

I was so excited to hear that Benjamin Moore chose Caliente, a rich, bold red, as the Color of the Year for 2018.

It seems as though red really fell off the popularity wagon in the past decade, but in the past year there have be distinct rumblings that it is coming back into favor, big time. Red is such a strong color — it has power, probably more than any other color. It evokes strong feelings and a small touch can completely change the tone of an outfit or a room. Red feels glamorous, bold, exciting, and regal, but most of all — powerful.

In my own home, I have found red difficult to use because it can go from powerful to overpowering very quickly. But I’m hoping to try it out in our bedroom this coming winter, starting with a gorgeous red vintage Oriental style carpet.

If red is intimidating, a red front door is an easy way to try it out. It makes a huge impact and doesn’t require you to commit to red in your interiors.

The easiest way, by far, to capture the power of red is in your wardrobe. A red scarf or a pair of red shoes can transform a simple outfit and will always look glamorous. And, of course, we are coming into the season where red feels the most festive and appropriate, so it’s the perfect time to experiment with a new sweater or statement coat. I have a formal event to go to this New Years Eve and I think a red evening gown is so classic and elegant.

Here is some inspiration for how to get some red in your life!
