
One kitchen trend I’ve fallen in love with is the use of vintage wooden tables as kitchen islands. I don’t even know whether I can call it a trend, since the decades-old tables have clearly stood the test of time when it comes to their beauty and appeal. Whether rustic or refined, the aged wood and classic shapes add such a warmth to the stone and tile that swath a typical kitchen.
I’ve been searching for the perfect table for our kitchen island for a while. It’s difficult because it has to be the right shape, wood, and size. I like lots of shapes and wood tones (it’s an I’ll-know-it-when-I-see-it-situation), but the size has to be just right — around 2 feet by 4 feet and over 30 inches high so that it will be useable as an island once small castors and a stone top are added. Library tables and writing desks are usually a close fit, and I think I might have found a winner this past week!
