I just finished “Room” by Emma Donoghue and it was great. (Admittedly I’m a little late, this book was a bestseller in 2010!) I’ve been waffling on about five books this winter, so it was refreshing to pick up a book that I literally couldn’t put down. I had to stop myself from reading all night long and finished it in two days. The story follows the experience of a five-year-old boy named Jack who has lived his entire life in a single room with his mother. I won’t spoil the rest of the story for those who haven’t read it, but I loved the fact that it was narrated by Jack, which saved it from being a horrifying true-crime type novel and made it so much more original and moving. I loved the mother-son bond between Jack and Ma; it was beautiful how it somehow made everything they went through more bearable. So if you’re looking for a memorable and absorbing read while you’re waiting for spring, this is it!
